DAIKOKUJI TEMPLE Oguro

This is a temple of the Sotoshu Denomination which possesses the oldest statue of Daikokuten. Originally, a small shrine was built by the famous ascetic, Enno Gyoja, in 665. This shrine was built to honour the Daikokuten statue that he had dreamed about and subsequently carved from Mt. Kongo cherry wood. The shrine was burned down during the Tensho era. The current temple was rebuilt in 1734 and the bell tower has a unique bell from the Chinese dynasty, "shin".
