Tsuhoji

Tsuboi is the place of origin of the Genji family (Kawachi Genji), ancestors of Minamotono Yoritomo who established the Kamakura Shogunate. Minamotono Yorinobu was appointed governor of Kawachi and built his main residence at Tsuboi. His son, Yoriyoshi, and grandson, Yoshiie, (famous under the name Hachimantaro Yoshiie), fought hard in the wars "Zenkunen-no Eki" and "Gosannen-no Eki" to establish their positions as commanders. Yoriyoshi's tomb is located in the site of the demolished Tsuhoji Temple and Yorinobu's and Yoshiie's are on a hill located so utheast of Tsuhoji Temple.
