MAUSOLEUM OF EMPEROR OHJIN

LATTICED SADDLE ORNAMENT MADE OF GOLD PLATED BRONZE Konda 6-chome

This mausoleum has an entire end-to-end length of 425m. The moat ranges from 60 to 80m in width and is the second largest in area, second only to Nintokuryo Mausoleum. Emperor Ohjin's Mausoleum is believed to possess the largest moat in terms of volume, in Japan. It was constructed at the beginning of the 5th century. A "Kondosei Sukashibori Kurakanagu"- a latticed saddle ornament made of gold plated bronze (shown in the left photo) was found from a satellite tomb, the Maruyama Kofun. It is currently carefully being kept in Konda Hachimangu Shrine.
