STATUE OF MIROKU BOSATSU Nonoue 5-chome

This temple is said to have been constructed by Crown Prince Shotoku Taishi and the Absolute Minister, Sogano Umako, during the Asuka era. It is also called "Naka-no Taishi". At first, it was a huge temple having the original temple layout (a national historic spot) with the Nandaimon (south big gate) facing the Takenouchi Highway. The remaining Hojo (chief priest's room) and Kangakuin Academy (cultural assets designated by Osaka Prefecture) were built during the Edo period, when the Risshu Denomination Schools were established. The temple has a statue of Miroku Bosatsu (important cultural assets) of the Hakuho era; a statue of Jizo Bosatsu (important cultural assets) of the Kamakura era; a stone coffin excavated at the tumulus "Hichinjo-ike-Nishi"; and the tombs of Osome and Hisamatsu, who are famous for their tragic love affair. The sasanqua tree, in the precincts, is designated as a natural monument by Osaka Prefecture.
